A brief video history of Android


In just 6 years, Google's mobile operating system has grown into one of the most pervasive mobile platforms on the planet. Though it has changed dramatically, it's remarkable just how much of the platform they got right from the very beginning. Here's a look back at Android's evolution from Cupcake and Donut to KitKat and Lollipop.


The brief history of Android:

  1. In 2008, first Android smartphone debuted - T-mobile's G1 aka the HTC Dream and notable release include 2008's Android 1.5 Cupcake
  2. 2009's Android 2.0 Eclair
  3. 2011's Android 3.0 Honeycomb
  4. Late 2011's Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
  5. 2013's Android 4.4 KitKat
  6. 2014's Android Lollipop

Android has gone through many shapes, sizes, and designs over the years, and today's Android is designed to run on not just phones and tablets, but wearables, cars, appliances, and countless other devices. Where will Android go tomorrow? And more importantly, what will the next dessert theme be? Only the future (and maybe a few brains at Google) knows that, but we're eager to go along for the ride.
